Turnbull Government

The Turnbull Government is the federal executive government of Australia, led by the 29th Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull. The government is made of members of the Liberal-National Coalition. The prime ministership of Malcolm Turnbull commenced on 15 September 2015, when he was sworn in by the Governor-General of Australia. Turnbull took office after he was successful in winning an internal leadership ballot against Tony Abbott. The Turnbull Government succeeds the Abbott Government, which was elected at the 2013 federal election.
In announcing his candidature for the Liberal leadership, Turnbull cited extended poor polling by the Abbott Government and a need for a new style of "economic leadership" as reasons for mounting his challenge. Turnbull promised "21st century government", and appointed Scott Morrison as Treasurer in an expanded ministry, promoting several key supporters. After meetings with the National Party and backbenchers, Turnbull indicated he would retain Abbott era policies against carbon pricing, and that would proceed with a plebiscite on marriage redefinition. In his first weeks of government, Turnbull concluded the announcement of Abbott's domestic violence initiative and funding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme in New South Wales and Victoria. In October, he travelled to New Zealand, as his first foreign port of call.
==Background==

Tony Abbott became Leader of the Opposition and Liberal leader following his successful 2009 leadership spill in which he defeated the incumbent, Malcolm Turnbull, by one vote. The Coalition, led by Tony Abbott, lost the 2010 federal election but won the 2013 federal election, returning to power after six years in opposition. Turnbull served as the Minister for Communications throughout the Abbott government.
